Less than an inch
Governor Palin being interviewed by Katie Couric, yet again shows her lack of depth. I find this horribly scary.

Have the Truth.. it Belongs to You.
If you feel that the last eight years have made you richer, safer, and better able to take you and your family into the next eight, then stop reading this now.
If you feel that the Bush administration and the republican party has dragged you and your country into some kind of hitherto unimaginable nightmare, where your children are sucked into an unwinable and unprovoked war, if you feel as if you owe your current financial struggle to “the market will fix it” economics, if you can’t pay your medical bills and feel like nobody gives a flying fuck, read on.
The McCain campaign has proposed canceling the presidential campaign debates because the economy is bad. If ever there was a more cynical attempt to manipulate you the American public, I am unable to remember it.
Based on years of deregulated financial mismanagement that they thought “the market will fix” the United States finds it’s self on the cusp of financial ruin. The republican party and the McCain campaign would have you believe that SOMEHOW.. the Democratic Party and Barack Obama are responsible for this. Stop and think about it for a second……………………………………………….
Lets say you left your cousin in charge of your lemonade stand for eight years. During that time he took your son and sent him to steal lemonade from someone who had a lemonade mine. Sadly the mine owner was a bit violent and killed your son.
Meanwhile your cousin spent all the money we had on killing the lemonade mine owner’s family and friends and told you that they were the people that killed your uncle (who died in a spectacular and unprovoked attack on your country) and his family.. even though he knew it wasn’t true.
Meanwhile Your cousin let his buddies tap your phonecalls. He made it acceptable to read your emails. He allowed your freedom of speech to be curtailed and he asserted that it was all ok because he was protecting you. Meanwhile he let the guy that he pretended was responsible for the whole debacle live free because if he was still at large you would be scared of him.
This of course is parody and over simplification. It’s not, however too far from what our president has actually done.
If you want to be fucked. If you want your sons and daughters sent to be slaughtered for a barrel of oil and if you want to go forth into the 21st century poorer and less respected than ever before, vote for John McCain. Give the republican party another chance to fuck you and this country and your children’s future. Welcome to the free world.
Why Obama?
I had been accused a few weeks ago of having my “nose up Obama’s ass” to the point that it obfuscated my reason. It’s bothered me over the last week or so and so I am writing this..That’s what blogs are for I hear..ahem. Bear in mind that comment was made by someone I love dearly so this is not to open the same can of worms just for me to clarify why I believe he is the candidate that ought to be the next President.
Do I think that Obama is some “great savior”? I do not. He is a politician after all and politics as we all know is a dirty filthy business almost by definition. As politicians go though I do have a somewhat higher level of trust in him. He comes not from political dynasties or from years in the Washington cesspool, he comes from humble origins. Raised in a single parent family, of mixed race and with few advantages. Something that many americans might well relate to. He also seems to be largely a man of his word and his convictions, many of which are not necessarily traditionally those of the Dems. On the subject of same sex marriage for example, he has said he is against it but for legal unions. My position is that who are we to tell people they cannot be married? Legal unions are a cop out. All Americans ought to have the same rights and privileges.
He’s a Christian, I am not. I think religion has no place in government and no place in politics. Sadly I am in a distinct minority on this point. I would prefer to have faith or lack thereof to have no relevance in the process of electing a president or running the country but that’s just pie in the sky.
On the other hand, he’s an intellectual. This is not a quality admired by the majority of the populace but I think it’s essential to have someone in the office of President that has the mental acuity to handle anything that comes his way. Whether it be knowing who the bad guys really are, or formulating a plan for exit from Iraq rather than just some vague concept of “when we have secured victory”. He’s also an eloquent speaker and knows how to pronounce the word “nuclear”.
He has a plan for health care. I think it’s ridiculous that the last remaining super-power, with the highest concentration of millionaires and billionaires on earth does not extend health care to ALL it’s citizens. The McCain campaign has no plan other than vague rumblings about tax credits.
He is for reproductive rights. I think that all women should have choice when it comes to their bodies. This doesn’t mean that I or Sen Obama are “pro- abortion” That’s a ridiculous assertion. It means I am pro choice and so is he. The McCain campaign seeks to remove that choice from all women.
He is for equal pay for all who do the same job. This should be a no-brainer in this day and age.
His tax plan would give americans at the lower end of the income spectrum, tax cuts. More money in my pocket at the end of each year is an issue I can get behind. Wealthier americans SHOULD pay more taxes, less wealthy americans should pay less.
He is in favor of a total ban on assault weapons. Nobody needs an Uzi but the military and law-enforcement.
I could go on and on but you get the idea.
Do I think Hillary Clinton would have made a good candidate/president? Absolutely but she was not the one chosen. She has however been campaigning hard on Sen Obama’s behalf and ought to be a player in his administration, should he be elected.
It is my hope that come January, positive change in the lives of average americans will slowly begin to happen. It is my hope that the country will be able to regain the stature that it once enjoyed on the world stage. It is my hope that in an Obama administration, war will be the tool of last resort, not the first response and as Senator Obama put it “there has never been anything false about hope”.

Download a pdf of Gab’s letter to the Daily Leader Here. Amazingly, the blog us still up. Either he doesn’t read the local paper ( a good possibility) and nobody cares enough about him to tell him about the letter or he’s stupid and/or doesn’t care.
Also this : A comment on the mayors blog and another one
AND finally: A Chimpcast that features Gab talking about the letter and the whole brouhaha
